Pimples on the Head; the Cause and the Cure

Getting pimples on the head can be embarrassing, especially if you aren’t sure what causes them and how to make them go away.  A lot of people get them, but no matter what they try, they just don’t seem to disappear.  What causes these annoying pimples? How in the world do you get rid of them?

Many people have reported that they get pimples on the head after they have used a styling product like hair gel or mousse.  Hair styling products tend to dry out the surface on the skin along with a scaly type residue that forms bumps or pimples.  When using a hairspray that is fairly heavy, this can have the same affect, and can form little tiny bumps behind the ears as well.  Because these products tend to dry the scalp out, it can make the head rather itchy.  The natural reaction is to scratch which can eventually make the problem worse.  Scratching the scalp produces an oilier surface in turn which tends to produce more pimples.  The process of this can be rather maddening for someone until they find another solution.

If the condition is being caused by an oily scalp, there may be a reasonable solution.  One of the easiest methods to treat an oily scalp is to get a basic shampoo that can take down the production of oil.  There are shampoos that are specifically for “oily hair”.  Those can certainly be helpful because when using an abundance of styling products the oil from your scalp will hold onto the styling products and make matters worse by clogging your pores.  The scalp produces its own oil called “sebum”, and when the scalp is overproducing this oil it can cause the skin to produce pimples and sores.

When the scalp is too dry and you are using a lot of styling products this can also cause problems.  The dry scalp produces thousands of flakes that we refer to as dandruff.  The dandruff can be helped by dry scalp shampoos, but it can also be helped by doing oil treatments.  One of the most popular hot oil treatments on the market is put out by V05.  The idea behind the oil treatments is to help the scalp have a healthy balance of oils so that you don’t have an itchy dry scalp and dandruff.  Beware when using the oil treatments in excess because if you use them too much, you can turn the scalp oily thus causing the opposite problem to occur.

The other thing to look for when using the oil treatments is to make sure that after the time is up on the treatment, that you wash your hair thoroughly rinsing out all the oil.  If the oil has not been completely washed out of your hair, then it can start clogging the pores overnight which in turn will bring about more acne or pimples on the head.  It’s hard to check in the mirror yourself, but if you can find someone else to help check it out for you have them look at your hair closely.  If you aren’t really sure, you can start to towel dry the hair.  If you are towel drying the hair and notice that it looks oily,  be sure to go ahead and re-rinse your hair again to  make sure all the oil has been washed out.

Hormonal imbalances, and a poor diet are also causes of acne just as with acne that develops on the face.  Everything that happens on the surface of your skin is usually a direct result of what is going on inside the body.  Topical ointments and hair styling products are certainly a large contributing factor, but a good rule of thumb is that your health happens from the inside out.
