Stress Pimples
Everything you ever wanted to know about the connection between stress and pimples
Stress and pimples are a way of life for some people, and for many of them, the two issues go hand in hand. Many studies have shown a direct link between stress and pimples, and researchers now believe that most adults who have a lot of acne experience it because they have a large amount of stress in their lives.
The reason stress and pimples go together is because of the body’s reaction to all those stress hormones. An increase in levels of stress hormones can cause your body to increase how much oil it gives off, and we all know that extra oil on the skin clogs pores. Clogged pores cause acne, and the cycle continues.
If you’re unsure whether your stress and pimples are connected, then you should begin keeping a record of your breakouts. If it seems like you experience a very stressful situation right before you experience a breakout, then you can best that they’re probably connected.
Stress and pimples don’t always have to go together. There are several ways you can avoid pimples that are related to stress. The best way to avoid acne is to simple eat a healthy diet. This will also make you better able to handle stress, and your body won’t give off so many stress hormones. Eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetables to make sure your hormones can stay balanced no matter what kind of stress you experience. Water should also be an important part of any diet. The old adage about drinking eight glasses of water per day is no joke. Water cleanses your body and your pores, helping to keep skin clear and hydrated.
You should also make sure you’re getting at least eight hours of sleep at night. Often very busy people feel like they just don’t have the time to sleep eight hours, but the fact is that they cannot afford not to. Lack of sleep can make you feel stressed, even when the tiniest of stressors happen. Just make sure you get enough sleep, and you’ll be able to handle whatever comes your way.
There are also plenty of stress management techniques that can help you deal with stress in a way that helps keep your hormone levels under control. Deep breathing exercises can go a long way toward helping you feel less stressed. Meditation and yoga are also great ways to keep large amounts of stress under control. Just find whatever works for you, and stick with it. Your body will thank you.
If all else fails and you do get pimples despite all your stress management techniques, then there are plenty of natural treatments for acne available. Just see your dermatologist and ask about natural treatments. In most cases, you don’t have to use harsh chemicals to keep your acne under control. The only time drastic measures may be in place is if you have a serious acne problem.
