Getting the Truth About Sweat and Pimples

Sweat and pimples go together like bread and butter, but it certainly isn’t appetizing!   Sweat causes pimples by clogging the pores in your skin and often they seem to appear overnight.  This is troublesome for many people who work out on a regular basis because in the process of a tough workout you sweat a lot.  So, if working out is good for you and you sweat while doing it, why do we have to worry about getting all of these pimples?

There is a wide variety of ways to get rid of the pimple problem.  Although we can’t prevent ourselves from sweating, topical treatments may be an option, but also diet is a large contributing factor.  Fried foods, sugar and high caffeine intake are all contributing factors to the pimples. 

Sweating is your body’s way of cooling itself off and eliminating toxins from the body as well.  This is why it’s critical to shower or bathe as soon as your workout is completed.  Showering or bathing helps to wash the toxins from your skin, and thus prevents the pores from getting clogged.  Keeping the skin clean has a lot to do with how the sweat and pimples go together. 

If the pimples are still a problem as a result of sweating, then topical items can be used, but topical ointments are a lot of trial and error.  It may take using the first topical ointment for a week before you really know whether or not you find it helpful.  If that one doesn’t work, then you can move onto the next one, but you will need to try that one out too before you really know whether or not it will work for you. 

Sweat and pimples seem as though they will have a relationship for quite awhile, so there really is no way to keep you from sweating.  What you can do is focus on the solutions that you can control such as showering right after you have been sweating.  Working out is not the only time you will sweat a lot, but keep in mind that when working outdoors in the summer scorching temperatures can cause you to sweat quite a bit.  If the temperatures are severely high then it would be wise to rinse off with a bottle of cool water anyhow, but if you can rinse off then that will keep your skin cleaner throughout the day. 

Many people have even stated that they experience tiny bumps called sweat bumps. Sweat bumps are very tiny, and can appear one by one or in a group of pimples.  Usually, you can identify a patch of sweat bumps because they usually are a little itchy and red.  Usually the redness is just from scratching, but over time that can cause a real problem.  When working out again while sweating, these sweat bumps tend to burn a little bit, and if you tend to rub the bumps the pores may become more clogged and generate more sweat bumps. 

There is some speculation that using a loofah when showering is helpful.  The reason for this is that it sloughs off the dead skin so it doesn’t accumulate with layers thus clogging the pores even more.  If you use a loofah while in the shower, you may want to incorporate that with a fragrance free shower gel.  In particular some of the best ones are Neutrogena.  The more natural the product is the better off you are.  Products that contain detergents or other harmful chemicals can only compound the problem, so if you can get a clear shower gel or soap that is always best.
