What Causes a Swollen Pimple and How to Get Rid of It

Having a swollen pimple can be a real pain in the face, but there are some simple solutions to help you get rid of it.  A swollen pimple is usually the result of a clogged pore, so the easiest way to get rid of it is to put a warm compress on it so that it will open up and begin to drain.  The swollen pimple won’t disappear with just one touch of a hot washcloth, but it would need to be applied daily if possible.  This is just one of the simple solutions to cure a swollen pimple.

The other way to get rid of a swollen pimple is just to stop touching it.  By touching it, you apply some pressure even if it’s minimal, but that only makes it worse.  As you touch it, you get more oil from your finger tips on the swollen pimple and as the oil gets into the pores that are already clogged and swelling it just makes things more painful.  No matter where the swollen pimple is, if you can see it put some Neosporin on it or you can even try an antibacterial cream.  This will help fight infection, and will help the swelling to go down over time.  Most people find it helpful if they apply it at night before going to bed.

One very popular product that people like to use to treat pimples is called salicylic acid.  This is a great acne fighting treatment, and when applied a few times a day can really dry the pimple out fast.  Most salicylic acid is in liquid form either by itself, or it may be in a facial cleanser like Clean and Clear or Neutrogena Clear Skin.  If it’s a topical treatment it’s best to be applied with a soft cotton q-tip that way your fingertips aren’t touching it and you won’t get any more oil into the clogged pore and you won’t be applying any pressure to it.  When using salicylic acid that is in a toner, you can apply it with a cotton ball and wipe it over the face slowly and carefully after washing your face.

The most natural way to fight pimples is by avoiding sugar and caffeine because the bad bacteria in the body feed of these things.  The body reacts on the outside to what is on the inside, so it only makes sense that what we eat would affect the appearance of our skin.  Herbal teas that have chamomile in them are very good for the skin, and drinking one cup a day is a great start.

The other natural solution as far as treating a swollen pimple is to use chamomile soap, or any soap that has sulphur in it.  This is a great treatment for acne because sulphur will automatically draw out impurities.  A company called Grandpa’s Soap makes Thylox Soap, which is a sulphur based soap.  When washing the face, just lather up the soap and spread it all over your face and let it sit for about 60 seconds.  If you have some really bad, noticeable acne then you may even see the soap fizz on that swollen pimple and start to dissolve it.  Sulphur soap has been extremely effective for those who are trying to treat acne.

One of the best topical solutions that is chemical free is tea tree oil.  Tee tree oil is best diluted with a little bit of water because it’s very stringent.  Tee tree oil kills fungus on contact so it’s very powerful and can burn the skin, so it is best to wet a q-tip with cold water then dip it in tea tree oil and rub it over the swollen pimple or affected area.  Tea tree oil will begin to work immediately and draw any bacteria out and start to shrink the pimple.
